MERILYN JAESKI

COMPOSER | SOUND ARTIST

"Klaashelbed vaikuse äärel"
("Glassflakes on the Edge of Silence")

FOR SINFONIETTA 2025

The sinfonietta is a sonic journey to the exoplanet HD 189733b, where particles of glass fall like rain. It tells the story of a place that is at once unnerving yet beautiful. This is a world ruled by an eternal storm. In the composition, distant signals emerge and fade, occasionally heard as if from afar. Over time, the soundscape dissolves into the unknown.

"Glassflakes on the Edge of Silence" is a meditation on fragility and cosmic beauty. It leads the listener to the brink of an otherworldly tempest.

"Veeväli GJ 1214 b"

("An Expanse of Water

GJ 1214 b")

FOR ORCHESTRA 2022

The combination of letters and numbers in the title of this piece is a reference to a planet first seen by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope in 2009. The object is forty light-years away from Earth and it is almost completely covered in water. Interestingly, there is an abundance of it in the planet's atmosphere as well. This is why the celestial body is surrounded by a dense cloud of vapor. The temperature on the surface of the planet is about 230 degrees Celsius.

"Veeväli GJ 1214 b" conveys the constance of change in the characteristics of the water overtime. It also represents the nature of light in this peculiar environment.
